We ventured out of our hostel and into the side streets of Siem Reap where we were quickly persuaded by our inquisition into a small Khmer family run restaurant, serving tradition Cambodian ("Khmer") food, including crocodile!
After saying we didn't want to be seen as naive and pay money for things on the street we ended up purchasing this book from a man with only half of both his arms, claiming to have lost both arms due to a landmine exploding- we were unsure as to whether the story was true but regardless we paid ten dollars for a book- oops.
We both ordered a gin and tonic each ($1.50/99p) and Khmer Curry. I had beef and Courtney ordered chicken- which to our amazement, was absolutely delicious. Not too spicy at all and full of mild aromatic flavours. A great first impression of Khmer food!
Following brunch we then headed to the Old Town markets to check out what the local Khmer people had to offer.
We both found little trinkets that we liked as presents for family back home... :-)
After our little shopping trip we walked down the river and back towards the town where we sat down for a $3 foot fish spa!
Now our feet have been rid of dead skin from our fish friends we have returned to the hostel for a little rest before we head out for dinner later on to enjoy some more local food.
Tomorrow we will be going to Angkor Wat to look at the temples, not sure if it will be boring or amazing!
The panorama above morphed a man on a motorbike into a woman on a motorbike because they were moving as I took it- the result? A ladyboy on a unicycle.
