After dinner we walked aimlessly and came across a market where I found the perfect gifts for you, Momma! We sat down and watched some Thais dancing on the stage and drank fruit shakes before going back to the hostel. Luke and Luke wanted to watch the football match and we had a TV in our room, so while they watched that, Ivy and I sat in the communal TV area of the hostel and watched Wanderlust and 127 Hours.
In the morning, I woke up to Luke poking my leg telling me I had a big bruise where I previously found a bite. It had swollen a few days earlier, but I have no idea why it then bruised!
We had a lie-in before walking down the street to find some food, without Luke Cross as he was still ill. We found a cute little Japanese cafe, and Luke had a matcha shake. We both ordered teriyaki salmon which was SO GOOD.
Oh and there was a cute lil pup outside too.
We hired a motorbike (yes, just one) so that Ivy could drive us to Wat Rong Khun, the main reason I wanted to visit Chiang Rai. It is genuinely the most beautiful temple we've all seen!
And on the way back, we found another cute lil pup.
That evening we found the Sunday market, which was the best market EVER! There were barely any tourists, so everything was so, so cheap. Ivy and I bought vintage shirts and jumpers, I bought some new nail varnish in the shape of ice cream, and we ate a lot of food. We had dinner at an Italian where the staff were super friendly, and then wandered into the food end of the market where we had ice cream, cakes and filled pancakes.
The following day we went for a drive on the bike to attempt to find the Black House, built by a Thai architect, which is full of dark art, such as skulls and animal skins, but we couldn't find it so we returned to the hostel just in time to catch our bus back to Chiang Mai.
We checked into our hostel last night, met Ivy at the small food market for dinner and then went back to the hostel to sleep. Our hostel was hassle-free but Luke and Ivy had trouble at theirs. When they arrived to check in, there were no staff at reception. After waiting a while, still nobody turned up so Ivy found the room list on the desk, and helped herself to the key, hoping they could pay in the morning when there would (hopefully) be some staff at reception. While Ivy was at the market with us, the angry owner banged on the door, and shouted at Luke because apparently Ivy had broken the office door. Luke paid him for the room, but they had to make a quick getaway this morning (which was apparently easy as again there were no staff to be seen). They looked up the hostel and found many reviews saying the owner was a dishonest man who had stolen money and cameras etc from previous guests.
After checking out, Luke and I went to a restaurant for lunch. It was Italian and Mexican cuisine (odd combo, I know) so we shared bruschetta for starter. For main, I just had a cream cheese bagel while Luke had a chicken burrito.
We also couldn't resist dessert.
Tonight we are catching a night bus back to Bangkok. Only a few more days until Australia!
